In 1907, the Lumière brothers developed the first color photography process on an autochrome plate. Julien Gérardin, a notary in Nancy, fell under the spell of this invention. In less than ten years, he would take thousands of shots that echoed the art of his time. A century later, his treasure would be found by chance.
The director returns to his hometown in search of this forgotten artist, a lover of women and nature. Through an intimate investigation, he revisits the places photographed and questions all those who could shed light on the double life of this mysterious man.
A journey through time and a questioning of art and posterity.
