About - Anita Conti, une vie embarquée
This is the story of a woman who was said to have the sea in her blood. In 1952, at the age of 53, Anita Conti experienced what no woman had ever experienced before: five months aboard a Grande-Pêche trawler on the banks of Newfoundland. Little did the sailors know that it was a writer who would share their daily lives. A year later, “Racleurs d'océans” was published, a thunderclap in maritime literature. How do you tell the story of an adventure that has already been told by its protagonist? Archive footage shot on board by Anita Conti is combined with the present tense, while the director's own footage, shot on an industrial trawler, is placed at a distance. The crossroads of temporality gives rise to a narrative between Anita Conti's and the director's gaze.
Marc Gourden Born in Lorient in 1969. After seven years in the French Navy (aboard the “Cassiopée” and the “Tourville”), he discovered cinema, studying it at the universities of Paris VIII and Paris X (DEA in documentary cinema). He became particularly fascinated by the films of Abbas Kiarostami, and then turned to documentary writing. In 2001, he embarked on the “Du Couédic” to make his first film, “Des hommes d'intérieur”, about life on board an industrial fishing trawler from Lorient. In 2005, he directed “Premiers pas” (First Steps), which explores the notion of commitment to the French Navy. In 2010, he set sail on the “Mariette Le Roch 2”, a Breton industrial fishing trawler, and directed “Anita Conti, une vie embarquée”. Marc Gourden divides his time between documentary filmmaking and image education activities (part-time audiovisual teacher at IUT Paris Descartes, college lecturer and trainer for mediathécaires). He is a member of Addoc (Association des cinéastes documentaristes).
