Le rire de Willem

About - Le rire de Willem

Bernard Willem Hoelthrop, known as Willem, is a continuous look at more than fifty years of French and international politics, social movements, wars, historical upheavals, the absurdities and horrors of the world.

Yet who really knows Willem?

L’Enragé, Hara-Kiri, Charlie Hebdo, Libération, Siné Mensuel, some sixty albums published by Les Humanoïdes de Harmony Futuropolis Les Requins Marteaux L’Association, Cornélius, thousands of illustrations and press cartoons anchored in our collective memory.

In 68 he met Siné and with Wolinski, Reiser, Topor, Gébé and Cabu. Together they would make the Très Riches Heures of Hara-Kiri and Charlie-Hebdo.

With a scathing political and social satire that spares nothing and no one, this joyful band will constantly push the limits of censorship, defy publication bans and shake up the lines of French society.

This is a team that does not engender melancholy.

Without being melancholic, there are not many people left of this team today.

The fault lies in the passing of time, the distance and a few armed and hooded madmen.

Among those who are no longer there, those who do not want to and who cannot, who to talk about Willem?

Tristan Thil

I was born in Metz in 1982.
After studying History and musical training at the Conservatory, I entered the Beaux-Arts and graduated in 2007, having passed through the FAMU (film and animation school in Prague).

I then worked as a 3D animator in an animation studio then as a graphic designer and colorist at Fluide Glacial.

It was in 2009 that I began to get involved in documentaries,
first as a technician on film sets, in editing and post-production, then as a director, from 2010, when the shooting of my first broadcast film, "Florange, dernier carré", began.

Today, after experience in production and several films made and broadcast, I continue my work in documentary writing, also exploring the fields of fiction, animation, or writing scripts for the comic strip at Dargaud and Futuropolis.
