In 2005, the Spanish company Fagor bought Brandt and became one of the leaders in the European household appliance sector. French employees were worried and feared layoffs.
But Fagor is not a company like any other, it is a cooperative.
Electing and dismissing its leaders, voting on salaries and the redistribution of profits, this is the way Fagor operates, the flagship cooperative of Mondragon Corporacion Cooperativa, the largest cooperative group in the world, the 7th largest company in Spain.
How did a network of cooperatives, often assimilated in France to small companies without ambition, manage to reach such a scale?
